At least five security forces were killed and seven others were wounded in a Taliban attack in northern Kunduz province on Tuesday night, a security source said on Wednesday.
The attack took place in the Talooka area in Kunduz city, as a group of Taliban attacked security checkpoints, said the source, adding that "the Taliban stole two Humvee vehicles."
"The clashes were ongoing into the early hours of Wednesday morning," he said. "There are no reports of Taliban casualties in the attack."
Neither security officials nor Taliban have yet commented on the attack.
New figures by security institutions reveal that 171 personnel of the Afghan security forces lost their lives in clashes with the Taliban in a week, despite an unannounced ceasefire between the two sides that is part of the peace efforts by the Afghan government and its international partners.
250 others were wounded in the clashes, according to the numbers.
The data also shows that 222 attacks were carried out by the Taliban in 29 provinces during the week.
